Name: Atef Talbi
City: Paris, France
Camera:
I started shooting with a medium format film camera, a Mamiya 645s and moved to mirrorless cameras 5 years ago. I now use a Sony A7R and a Sony A7RII.
Main photographic subject:
My favorite subject to portray is wild nature with cloudy dramatic and colorful skies crossed by sunlight rays. Adventure inspires me a lot. Crossing Iceland from North to South alone during 22 days, sailing to Antarctica and hiking in Patagonia and Siberia have been among my best photographic journeys, because I feel like I deserved every single shot I took in these harsh environments.
Style:
I mostly shoot empty landscapes and impressive mountains with wide-angle lenses. I rarely put human beings in the frame this is one of the reasons why Polar Regions and mountains attract me. They are the last sanctuaries naturel sanctuaries that haven’t been altered by human activity.

When did you start with photography? Where does this passion come from?
I’m originally from the North of Tunisia and have been living in Paris for the last 12 years. My first photographic subject have been the stars, photography was first related to my passion about astronomy when I was a teenager. Then as I started travelling and venturing in wild and remote places around the globe, so I focused on landscapes and wanted to share the beauty of nature through my camera.
What should photography communicate according to you?
For me travel and landscape photography is a way of communicating emotions and beauty. As photographers we have a perfect tool to make people aware of their impact on nature. I think that showing its beauty is a very efficient way to make us respect it a bit more.
Why is so important to capture photographs while travelling according to you?
Capturing photographs while travelling is very important to me, because memories fade with time. Sometimes all I need is an image to remember places, moods and even smells of an ephemeral moment.
Have you ever been to South Tyrol and what do you associate with this region?
I haven’t been yet to south Tyrol. I know the French Alpes quit well but never been to the Italian part of the mountain range. The Dolomites and South Tyrol have been on my list for a while and I imagine the scenery with foggy high peaks and dramatic cloudy sky.
