Name: Federico Penta
City: Rome, Italy
Camera:
I use a Nikon D850 and a Nikon D810 as a backup camera with Nikon 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 lenses. I also use a Sony RX100 Mark 4 as a compact camera when I don’t want to carry my heavy bag and a Mavic Pro drone to take aerial photos.
Main photographic subject:
My main subjects are every type of landscapes from mountains to deserts. I really like tropical landscapes and challenging situation just like shooting the Northern Lights. What inspires me the most is my wanderlust syndrome and the thousands of people that are following me and supporting me every day.
Style:
Behind every picture that I take there is a lot of work in planning the shot, finding the perfect composition, the best settings and spending hours in post-processing. From the jugged cliffs of the Norwegian fjords, to the tropical landscapes of the Hawaiian coasts, I find the beauty of Nature and I show the best of it to the viewer, whether it is at sunrise, sunset or during the night.

When did you start with photography? Where does this passion come from?
Since five years ago I started traveling around the world. I realized I needed to break the monotony leaving behind what was comfortable to me, whether it was a group of friends or favorite food. So, I decided to travel the world. I discovered my passion for photography during a three months trip in Australia which has kept me traveling over the years to discover new places.
Where do you come from? Has this place been your first photographic subject?
Rome, Italy. Well, this is a shame but no. I tend to travel a lot as an inspiration. I’ve actually never shot in my home city because I don’t feel very inspired taking pictures of the things that are part of my life, even if I know it’s one of the most beautiful city in the world!
What should photography communicate according to you?
Photography is art and pure inspiration for the people that look though the eyes of the photographer. If someone looks at one of my pictures I want him to be inspired to pack up and leave the comfort zone, the familiar, the safe place, and experience unknown things, a new place, new people, unfamiliar customs, to see the world.
Why is so important to capture photographs while travelling according to you?
Every journey ends with many amazing memories and the best part of living these moments is to share them. Photography is my best way to express the moments that I lived to create stories. This is why photography is so important when travelling.
Have you ever been to South Tyrol and what do you associate with this region?
I only know the eastern side of the Dolomites as my parents used to bring me here in winter. Now I’m here to see South Tyrol with entirely new eyes!
